The collective Duo Bold Absurdium was founded in 2017 by dance artists Anna-Maija Terävä and Nina Viitamäki. The concept and foundation was inspired by their first collaboration with choreographer Soile Lahdenperä.
The collective focuses on working with instant composition in collaboration with different choreographers. The collective’s vision is to make improvisational, bold, fun and intimate stage works that are easily accessible to viewers. The vision is based on the team members’ long experience on improvisation and the desire to facilitate access to more marginal dance art.
Duo Bold Absurdium [stage work] is based on instant composition. It is an ever-changing dance duet responsing to the present moment and the presence of the audience. Every performance is a bold and absurd dance of two women for each other and with each other – together with the viewers. The work is an alliance of humor and seriousness, terribly funny and terribly sad, with a lot of noise and even more silence.
In this stage work dance artists Anna-Maija Terävä and Nina Viitamäki carried out their dream of many years to work together. The two, quite different dancers, are united by brutality, honesty, straightforwardness and diversity of femininity. And most importantly, they share a similar sense of humour.
They invited the choreographer Soile Lahdenperä, a Finnish pioneer of new dance, as the director of the work. Soile Lahdenperä operated as a moving instructor, mentor and coach of the work. Instant composition is most characteristic way for all the group members to create dance.
